One Year In and the Year Ahead
Our First Year
It's hard to believe that we launched Malou Collection a year ago. By now, we
are seasoned Saturday morning meeting warriors and we flip through our notebooks with pride to see pages of artwork - courtesy of Angela's mini me, Pia - right next to business plans.
When we started our business, it was critical that we build a business culture that worked for us, and that includes rubbing elbows with babes at the table. We wanted something that normalized having a personal life in the workplace. It's part of why honesty is one of our core values. We wanted to be honest about where we're at, as individuals, about our products, about where they come from, and our experiences as women.
Where we're at today - one year in to going public - is thankful.
We're thankful for the support we've received from family, friends and new friends alike. Every like, comment, share...every purchase, word of encouragement, thumbs up, "how's the business?" inquiry, or feedback on the product...it all means the world to us.
It's hard to explain the thrill of seeing your garment on someone in the wild so to speak. And please know, that every new purchase comes with a literal happy dance, a high-five, and a flurry of excited text messages between Angela and I.
We didn't anticipate launching Malou a mere five months before a global pandemic, and we certainly didn't anticipate that we would need to change our marketing strategy so early on. Ultimately, we're proud of what we've been able to do to meet our #maloumama community where they are - online! We're fortunate and privileged to be able to try new things, to be so candid with our community, to explore new ideas and opportunities, and to keep building malou to help women feel like their best selves in sustainable, beautifully crafted garments.
We're thankful to have learned from other entrepreneurs and experts, to have been able to watch hundreds of hours (literally) of online Shopify, Quickbooks, Etsy, SEO, graphic design, sewing and pattern making video tutorials. We know we're not done learning, and we hope we get to support fellow budding entrepreneurs and pay-it-forward. The Year Ahead
Looking ahead to the coming year - we're psyched to see what we can
accomplish. We're excited to introduce a new style (fingers crossed for two!) new colours, and new opportunities to connect. We're looking forward to making new friends and connections.
